“I found out I was pregnant
in 2002. I went for an HIV test and they told me I was positive and gave me
counselling. I was so shocked because my first born, who is now 21, has HIV
and is sick. I thought, I must accept this and be strong for my daughter but
I didn’t tell her at first. I told my son. He was 10 then. He didn’t
cry. He hugged me and said, ‘no mummy, everything will be alright. You
must be strong, don’t be depressed as it will make you sick.” I
went to a neighbour who told me about Wola Nani and then I started going to
the support group. I am not on treatment as I am well. I use milk formula for
my baby. I told my boyfriend but he did not run away. He won’t be tested
but we condomise.”
